I have to say, Olie and Stu's Desert Bash is one of my most favorite times of the year. I get to catch up with former players, meet new people and see the generosity of the Tri-Cities.
This year's auction alone raised approximately $150,000. There still is much more the come with team fees and such. Olie believes they will surpass last year's mark of $275,000. I hope so. The Responding to Austism Center is the recipient of the money raised. The center helped more than 700 families last year, and through June this year, more than 200 new families have benefited from the resources the center offers.
Clint Didier was in attendance — hard to miss him and his straw hat. I had the pleasure of meeting Kimo von Oelhoffen on Monday, along with Alonzo Mitz. Big guys. But, the biggest guy on the course is former NBA player Darrall Imhoff, who stands 6-10 (though I swear he's over 7 feet). He is the nicest guy you will ever meet. And he has stories to tell. Click here and read all about his days on the court.
I also learned that Dylan Stanley will play in Germany once again, and that Shaun Vey got married last month. I'm getting old.
Never miss a local story.
Herald photo editor Bob Brawdy and I took a few shots from the event. Enjoy.
