Holy vulcanized rubber!
The Spokane Chiefs threw 78 — yes 78 — shots on goal at Chilliwack's Lucas Gore on Wednesday night. And, they only managed to escape with a 2-1 win a shooutout.
Talk about being in a zone. Gore deserves a silver stick for valor in the face of the enemy. The kid was busier than Santa on Christmas Eve.
The Chiefs trailed 1-0 after the Bruins scored late in the second period. Spokane tied the game with a goal by Matt Marantz — on its 60th shot of the game.
Never miss a local story.
Spokane fell short of the shots-on-goal record for one game by 7. The Brandon Wheat Kings had 85 shots on goal March 12, 1979 in a 14-4 win over the visiting Regina Pats.
Wednesday night, Chilliwack had 23 shots on goal through overtime.
