I’ve been covering the WHL long enough to have seen dozens of players go through the Americans dressing room.
And so far, they’ve all gone on to bigger and better things, have gone to college or have just gone home. The main point, is they made it to their next destination.
Tuesday night, news and updates of the death of former Everett Silvertips player Jordan Mistelbacher were popping up in my e-mail as I was watching the Americans play Chilliwack in TV. My heart just sank. I was in the office until 1 a.m. trying to find out more, but nothing was available.
I’ve written my share of stories on the deaths of coaches and players in my career, and it is not an easy task.
Nick Patterson, who covers the Silvertips for the Everett Herald, posted a touching item Wednesday morning in his blog.
At this point, the Winnipeg Free Press -- one of Mistelbacher's hometown newspapers -- might be providing the most up-to-date information on this tragedy. It's been the top story on the Free Press' homepage today.
