Kenny Cooper scored on a penalty kick in the 77th minute to lift FC Dallas to a 1-1 tie with the Portland Timbers on Wednesday night in Frisco, Texas.
The draw extended the unbeaten streaks for two of the hottest clubs in Major League Soccer to eight games apiece.
Cooper’s second goal of the season came after Portland’s Andrew Jean-Baptiste was shown a yellow card for pulling down Blas Perez inside the penalty area a minute earlier. Cooper then stepped to the dot and slotted a low shot just inside the left post.
Raul Fernandez made three saves for Dallas, which owns the league’s best record and is 6-0-2 in its past eight. Dallas also remains unbeaten at home (5-0-1), outscoring the opposition 10-3.
Midfielder Diego Chara scored, and Donovan Ricketts made four saves for the Timbers.
At Red Bulls 2, Impact 1: Thierry Henry scored on a spectacular bicycle kick in the 88th minute for his second goal of the game, and New York won its fourth in a row by beating Montreal.
Marco Di Vaio scored for the Impact in the 90th minute and almost tied the game a minute later, hitting both goal posts on one shot.
However, Henry’s fifth goal of the season was all anyone will remember. Juninho took a corner kick from the right side that Red Bulls defender Markus Holgersson flicked toward the left post. Henry went head over heels, bringing 11,892 fans to their feet when it found the back of the net.
Dynamo 4, at D.C. United 0: Will Bruin continued his dominance over D.C. United, scoring two goals and assisting on a third to lead Houston.
Bruin has scored nine times in nine career appearances against United.
Real Salt Lake 2, at Revolution 1: Substitute Olmes Garcia scored in the 89th minute to rally RSL past New England.
Devon Sandoval tied the score for Salt Lake in the 77th, putting in a rebound.
At Earthquakes 2, Toronto FC 1: Chris Wondolowski set up the tying goal and scored the winner to lead San Jose to a victory over Toronto FC.
Wondolowski scored in the 81st minute, using his right knee at point-blank range to jam home Walter Martinez’s flicked header off Marvin Chavez’s corner kick.
