Sounders FC goalkeeper Kasey Keller will make it to the MLS All-Star Game after all.
The goalkeeper, the club and the league on Wednesday announced that they had worked out a plan for Keller to play for the Sounders in their CONCACAF Champions League match in Panama on Tuesday and then make it to New York in time for the All-Star Game on Wednesday.
Fans had voted Keller onto the All-Star First XI, but the league had ruled that players from Seattle, Dallas and Toronto would not participate because of their Champions League commitments.
However, Sounders coach Sigi Schmid complained that clubs should be allowed to work out such conflicts on their own, and Keller expressed eagerness to get to New York if possible.
Never miss a local story.
Due to his travel, Keller seems likely to play only in the case of an injury or red card, a league spokesman said.
If Keller plays, he will be facing the same Manchester United team that thrashed the Sounders, 7-0, in a friendly Wednesday night at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.
Keller played only the first half against the legendary English Premier League team. The first half ended with Man U holding a 1-0 lead.
