Rick Redden resigned as Richland football coach Tuesday afternoon, citing personal and family reasons.
Redden went 18-11 in three seasons with the Bombers, taking them to the regional playoffs last season. He previously was an assistant coach at Weber State University.
Bombers athletic director Mike Edwards said he had been talking to Redden in the past couple of weeks, trying to work the situation out.
Redden was unavailable for comment.
"This was a little bit of a surprise," Edwards said. "But his desire was to try something different."
Edwards said the position will be posted today, "and we'll get things going as fast as we can to have someone ready for spring ball."
