The Inter-Mountain Alpine Club is planning the following excursions:
-- Backpacking trip to Goat Rocks, Aug. 15-17. The Goat Rocks are known for scenery and unpredictable weather. Participants should be experienced backpackers in good condition, according to a news release. Wear good boots and be prepared for cool, windy and rainy weather. This trip is limited to eight hikers, so sign up by 9 p.m. Aug. 11.
-- Day hike to Hamilton Mountain, Aug. 16. This hike is on the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge and has waterfalls, craggy cliffs, deep forests and lots of views. It is a moderate climb that eventually includes switchbacks. The return trail is easier than the climb up, according to a news release. Sign up by 8 p.m. Aug. 14.
-- Day hike to Tumac Mountain, Aug. 23. Tumac Mountain is an extinct volcanic cinder cone. The view from 6,340 feet up includes Twin Sisters Lakes, Blankenship Meadows and Mount Rainier. The hike is in the William O. Douglas Wilderness between White and Chinook passes and is accessed from Highway 410. Sign up by 9 p.m. Aug. 21.
