Ideas to improve rules for fishing in the Columbia River Basin can be submitted to the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife through May 30.
State fish managers will consider proposed rules for any species except salmon, as long as they apply to the Colu mbia River, its tributaries or lakes within the basin.
People can propose a change at wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/regulations/rule_proposals or get a submission form by calling 360-902-2700.
This year's focus on a specific area marks a change from the past practice of considering fishing rules proposed for anywhere in the state each year. The agency will focus on proposals for freshwater fisheries in Puget Sound and coastal areas in 2015 and saltwater fisheries in 2016.
Never miss a local story.
Rule changes developed through this process for the Columbia River Basin will be available for public review and comment in August. A public hearing will be held in November, and new rules will be adopted in December.
