Carter Proft scored two goals and Eric Williams finished with 20 saves for his fourth shutout this season in leading the Spokane Chiefs to a 6-0 victory over the Tri-City Americans before a sold-out crowd Friday night at Spokane Arena.
With the win, the Chiefs (43-25-2-0, 88 points) secured fourth place in the Western Conference standings.
The Americans (40-26-1-3, 84 points), who have lost three in a row, will be the fifth seed in the playoffs.
Tri-City hosts Spokane today and will close out the regular season Sunday at Everett.

Friday, Spokane led just 1-0 at the end of the first period off a goal by Alessio Bertaggia. The Americans had three quality chances, including a short-handed breakaway by Justin Feser, but could not get anything past Williams.
Proft scored both of his goals in the second period for a 3-0 lead, while Mitch Holmberg, Tyler King and Jackson Playfair all scored in the third for Spokane, which was 3-for-7 on the power play.
Reid Gow, Todd Fiddler and Brenden Kichton all had two assists for the Chiefs.
Troy Trombley, who has lost his last three starts, finished with 22 saves for the Americans.
The Americans and Chiefs will meet in the first round of the playoffs. The series will start March 22-23 at Spokane Arena.
Games 3, 4 and 5, if necessary, will be played March 26, 28 and 30 at Toyota Center. If needed, Game 6 would be April 2 in Spokane.
If the series stretches to Game 7, Spokane would host the final game April 3.
