SHAWINIGAN, Quebec — Jonathan Huberdeau scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Saint John Sea Dogs to a 4-1 win Wednesday over the Memorial Cup host Shawinigan Cataractes.
With the Sea Dogs’ victory, the London Knights earned a berth in the tournament final, while Saint John will play the winner of tonight’s tie-breaker game between Shawinigan and the Edmonton Oil Kings.
The Sea Dogs scored the game’s first goal at 4:39 as Jonathan Huberdeau took a pass from Charlie Coyle in the slot before burying his third marker of the tournament.
Saint John had a two-man advantage in the closing minute of the first period and took a 2-0 lead as Stanislav Galiev let a hard wrist-shot go from the front of the crease.
Ryan Tesink scored at 16:05 of the second for Saint John, only to see Shawinigan’s Anton Zlobin score on the power play at 18:55 for a 3-1 game.
Jonathan Huberdeau finished the scoring for Saint John, putting the puck in an empty net with 1:32 left in the game.
