EVERETT -- The Tri-City Americans pulled to within 4-3 on Zach Yuen's power-play goal late in the third period, but the Everett Silvertips got two empty-net goals to close out the Western Hockey League home victory.
Everett (2-5-0-2, 6 points) shot out to a 4-1 lead when Tyler Maxwell scored his second goal of the night with 1:36 left in the second period.
The Americans (7-4-0-0, 14) answered back on the power play with a goal by Adam Hughesman -- his second of the night -- just 59 seconds into the third period to cut it to 4-2.
But after Yuen's goal cut it to 4-3 with 3:25 remaining, the Silvertips locked down on defense despite getting outshot 20-6 in the final period. When Tri-City goaltender Ty Rimmer left the net for an extra attacker with 3:36 left, Everett took advantage, getting two goals from Josh Birkholz into the empty net.
