SPOKANE -- Levko Coper recorded a natural hat trick, netting three straight goals for Spokane to break open a close game and give the Chiefs an 8-3 victory over Portland in the Western Conference finals at Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday in Spokane.
The victory evened the Western Hockey League series at two games apiece, with Game 5 coming up at 7 p.m. today at the Rose Garden in Portland.
Spokane winger Matt Marantz scored just 10 seconds into the game for a 1-0 lead. Joe Morrow scored for the Winterhawks on the power play at 10:54 to tie it at 1. But Tyler Johnson scored just under two minutes later off assists from Coper and Brenden Kichton to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead.
Koper's first goal came at 18:52 of the second period and gave Spokane a 5-2 lead. He then scored the first two goals of the third period.
