EVERETT -- Brett Thompson scored twice and Brett Findlay had a four-point night as the Ontario Hockey League's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds beat the Tri-City Americans 6-2 on Sunday in the penalty-marred conclusion to both teams' portion of the Everett Silvertips Pre-Season Classic.
The contest featured a combined 172 penalty minutes, 92 for Tri-City. But the Americans were only 1-for-9 on the power play, while the Greyhounds finished 3-of-10.
Zachary Yuen and Jordan Messier scored for Tri-City.
Drew Owsley started the game in goal and collected 15 saves on 19 shots in just over 30 minutes of work. Rookie Chris Driedger finished up with 15 saves on 17 shots.

The Americans return home for their own tournament, the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament, which runs Thursday through Sunday at Toyota Center.
The Ams open at 7:05 p.m. Friday against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
