The Tri-City Americans announced today that the team has signed 17-year-old forward Brock Zimak to a standard Western Hockey League player’s contract.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound left wing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, appeared in 39 games last season for the Winnipeg Wild AAA Midget team.
Zimak, a fourth-round (78th overall) bantam draft pick by Tri-City in 2006, registered 11 goals and 35 points, while assisting the Wild to the Manitoba Provincial Midget AAA semiinals. He also played four games with the Winnipeg South Blues of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, collecting a goal and two points.
“(Brock) is an intense player that brings an outstanding work ethic to the rink every day,” Ams general manager Bob Tory said in a news release. “We are excited that he has committed to our program.”
The Americans’ rookie camp runs Aug. 20-23. Main camp begins Aug. 24.
