Gonzaga’s Maggie Jones (Richland) won the 3,000 meters in 9 minutes, 58.02 seconds at Saturday’s University of Idaho Invitational in Moscow.
Western Washington’s Emily Benson (Kamiakin) continued her long-ball assault, hitting three home runs and driving in 10 runs for the Vikings in Saturday’s split with Montana State-Billings.
Never miss a local story.
Benson leads the Great Northern Athletic Conference with 12 home runs, hitting five in her past five games and passing the previous single-season school record of 10 home runs. She also has hit safely in 15 consecutive games.
“Emily had a tremendous approach at the plate today and is just locked in right now,” coach Amy Suiter said on the WWU website. “She stepped up to the plate today and was an instant RBI.”
The Vikings (14-15) still have 17 games left in the regular season.
