The 88th Washington State Men’s Amateur Golf Championship kicks off Tuesday morning at Wine Valley Golf Club, and there will be a heavy local flavor in the 120-man field.
Richland’s Ryan Anderson, Scott Kim, Cole Lorenzo, Jeffrey Marcum, Drew McCullough and Chris Sonnichsen will be competing.
So will Kennewick’s Daniel Cruzen, Riley Hayfield, Jason Laughery, Nick Mandell and David Vonghalath.
Other Mid-Columbians in the tournament include: Walla Walla’s Ryan Baumgart, Michael Ciez, Tyler Daniels and Kevin Michelson; College Place’s Bengt Gustavsson, Mike Kearbey and Chris Smith; Milton-Freewater’s Mason Palmer; and Moses Lake’s Cameron Whittle. Former Seattle Mariners pitcher Erik Hanson, a standout amateur golfer, is also competing.
The tournament, which runs through Thursday, has a format that consists of 54 holes of stroke play, with the field cut to the low 60 players plus ties after 36 holes.
