With their season on the line, Bellevue Thunderbird survived to play another day at the Washington State Little League Tournament on Saturday at the Badger Mountain Complex in Richland.
Needing to beat Walla Walla Valley to stay alive, Thunderbird took advantage of two errors and some timely walks to beat Walla Walla 8-3 and force a second game in the championship series.
Today’s game will be played at 10 a.m.
Thunderbird had a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning before Kobe Maltos’ two-run single stretched the lead to 7-2.
Walla Walla tagged on a run in the top of the sixth as Camden McCollaugh ripped a triple to right field, and later scored on a wild pitch, but it wasn’t enough.
Walla Walla coach Pat Graham had a few parting words for his players after the game.
“That team that showed up today will not show up again,” Graham said. “Believe in yourselves.”
