Gerald Hein carried a no-hitter through four innings, and Kennewick jumped out early to score a 7-4 win over Glacier on Monday in pool play at the Babe Ruth 15s Pacific Northwest Regional in Centralia.
Hein baffled the Montana state champion before leaving in the fifth. DJ Dyer came on and closed out the final two-plus innings. The two combined to allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out six.
Offensively, Pavin Combs and Tyler Detloff carried the big sticks, each going 2-for-4 and driving in a pair or runs. Detloff added a double.
Kennewick erupted for six runs in the fourth inning to open a 7-2 lead and never looked back.
The local squad is back in action at 4 p.m. today as pool play continues against Grays Harbor.
Junior American Legion
The host Walla Walla Bruins stayed alive at the Junior American Legion State tournament Monday by beating Lakeside 10-6.
The Bruins had won their opener on Saturday, beating Colville 14-2. But they lost on Sunday, falling 9-7 to Mason.
The Bruins will play a loser-out contest at 4 p.m. today against Mt. Spokane.
The 16-team tournament is divided into two eight-team tournaments, with the two champions set to play each other at 1 p.m. Thursday at Borleske Stadium.
Mason is the lone undefeated team in the Walla Walla CC bracket.
Eastlake is the lone unbeaten team in the Murr Field and Borleske Bracket.
A Legion state tournament
The Hanford A Flames fell 11-1 to Kenmore in the game of unbeatens at the A State Tournament at North Thurston High School in Lacey.
The loss sends the Flames into a loser-out contest at 3 p.m. today against Freeman.
Kenmore plays North Kitsap at 6 p.m. today.
