Richland swimmer Nicole Weinman pulled double duty during Thursday’s Tri-City Championships at Prout Pool.
During the diving portion of the meet, she sat next to the judges and announced the scores to the crowd.
When she wasn’t behind the microphone, Weinman was busy clocking state-qualifying times in the water.
The senior won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events and was a part of victories in the 200 medley and 400 free relays, helping the Bombers claim the team title with 339 points.
Never miss a local story.
“She had some very, very impressive swims,” Richland/Hanford coach Kathy Piper said. “She came to the pool ready to rock today.”
Hanford was second in the team standings with 237 points, and Walla Walla took third with 152.5. Kennewick finished a point ahead of Southridge for fourth.
Not only was Weinman happy to help her team win, but she was glad to get her state lineup set.
She was the only swimmer to break 2 minutes in the 200 free, finishing in 1:56.96. In the 500, her time of 5:17.90 was well under the state-qualifying standard.
“The 500 wasn’t exactly what I wanted, but I was happy to get the state time out of the way,” said Weinman, a University of Idaho commit. “It’s nice to get them out of the way early because you don’t have to worry about them later.”
The Bombers also got state-qualifying times from Lisa Bratton in the 100 free and Sarah Olsen in the 100 butterfly.
A couple of sister acts joined in on the state-qualifying action.
Hanford’s Stephanie and Lisa Tixier each qualified in two individual events. After Kennewick’s Hailey Murphy placed third in the 100 fly with an SQT of 1:01.71, her sister Alexis qualified for her first state appearance with a 1:11.31 in the 100 breaststroke.
On the diving board, Southridge’s Danielle Freund scored 193.10 points to get past Kamiakin’s Danielle Brandon and Jessica Anderson.
Freund was cleared to compete last week after suffering a concussion, and she battled shin splints Thursday.
