Hanford’s Luke Thompson won his fourth 3A regional title, and helped the Falcons to the boys team title Saturday at University High School in Spokane.Sierra Troxel, who won her second consecutive regional title, led Hanford to the girls team title.
Thompson, who had a bye in the quarterfinals, also got a bye in the semifinals as West Valley’s Mitch Anderson defaulted.
In the title match, Thompson beat West Valley’s Aaron Farmer 6-1, 6-3, while Anderson went on to finish third and grab the final seed to the state tournament.
In boys doubles, Hanford’s Quinten Dicken and Shane Sandlin topped Eastmont’s Brett Canada and Josh Waterhouse 7-5, 6-3 for their first regional crown.

Finishing third, were Eastmont’s Colton Erho and Anthony Brimble, who defeated Matt Graham and Sean Urann of Mt. Spokane, 6-0, 6-3.
Troxel defeated Bekah Waterhouse of Eastmont 6-0, 6-1 in the championship match. In the semifinals, Troxel beat Stephanie Buckingham of Kennewick, 6-0, 6-1.
Buckingham finished third and earned a trip to state with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Sarah Letsch of Shadle Park.
In girls doubles, Hanford’s Alex Sharpe and Acacia Dettman finished second after dropping the championship match to West Valley’s Carley Schmidt and Carly Riehl, 7-5, 6-4.
Southridge’s, Sofia Morrison and Sarah Morgan finished third with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jessi Barth and Katie Rohr of University.
“They all played well,” Hanford coach Bill Fletcher said. “We are excited for next weekend.”
The 3A state tournament is Friday and Saturday at Kamiakin High School and Tri-City Court Club.
4A Regionals: Richland’s Travis Zuroske and Tasha Talbot (boys and girls singles), as well as Bombers Brett Myer and Zach Fisher (boys doubles), earned tickets to state with qualifying finishes in the 4A Regional tennis tournament at Central Valley.
The top 3 in each category advance to state Friday and Saturday at Columbia Basin Racquet Club and Richland HS.
Zuroske fell in the boys singles championship to Gonzaga Prep’s Alex Marcinkowski 6-1, 6-0. Also losing their championship matchup, Myer and Fisher fell 6-4, 6-2 to Wenatchee’s Nick Mandelis and Lucas Tilly.
Talbot claimed her ticket with a 6-4, 6-2 third-place victory against Eisenhower’s Claire Bohoskey.

2A Regional tennis: Grandview’s boys doubles team of Abel Pasillas and Stevan Ramirez came back from a 4-6 opening set loss to defeat Joseph Chung and Jamie Simanson of Pullman. Pasillas and Ramirez won the second set with a 12-10 tiebreaker and then won the third set to claim the No. 3 seed to state.
Jocelyn Cantu and Yanitta Cantu of Othello earned the No. 5 doubles seed to the girls state tournament, beating Helen Petersen and Karley Crawford of Prosser 6-0, 6-1.

Oregon state 5A championships: The Hermiston girls doubles team of Sarah Hawman and Emily Stocker reached the 5A championship but lost to Hanna Greenberg and Vika O’Brien of Ashland 6-3, 6-1 in the final match at Portland Tennis Center. Hermiston finished fifth behind team champion Summit.
