With snow on the ground and freezing rain in the forecast, the Kennewick, Pasco, Richland and Finley school districts have closed schools today and canceled tonight's sporting events.
Wrestling fans must wait until Tuesday night for two blockbuster CBBN duals -- Chiawana (4-0) at Moses Lake (3-0) in the 4A, and Pasco (5-0) at 3A rival Sunnyside (5-0). Both matches will be at 7 p.m.
Wednesday's Southridge-Kamiakin gymnastics meet was postponed as well, with no makeup date set.
Some area athletic directors took a wait-and-see approach with their schools on a two-hour delay as of Wednesday evening.
"We're supposed to host Ephrata in wrestling, but we'll make that determination by 11 a.m. or so of whether it goes on," Prosser athletic director Casey Gant said.
The weather also has affected college games.
Tonight's Idaho-Nevada women's basketball contest in Moscow has been moved to 6 p.m. Monday.
On Wednesday, the Columbia Basin College and Walla Walla Community College basketball teams stayed put as the snowstorm spread across the Mid-Columbia.
CBC's games at Wenatchee Valley tentatively have been rescheduled for Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men), said CBC athletic director Scott Rogers.
The WWCC teams also are slated to face Yakima Valley on Feb. 25. The women's game is set for 2 p.m., while the men are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.
