KENNEWICK -- Meridian, Idaho, got off to a quick start at the Pacific Northwest Regional Tournament for 13-year-olds at Roy Johnson Field, defeating Willamette Valley 10-2 on the first day of the tournament.
Whitefish, Mont., defeated Calagry 5-2 in another game, while Rock Springs, Wyo., edged the Seattle Bombers 5-4.
Bend, Ore., was playing Centralia in the late game Monday.
Tournament play continues today the the Seattle Bombers taking on Whitefish at 10 a.m.; Willamette Valley playing Bend at 1 p.m.; Calgary taking on host Kennewick at 4 p.m.; and Centralia and Hazel Dell meeting at 7 p.m.
The champion of this tournament advances to the Babe Ruth World series later wthis month.
