KENNEWICK -- Tournament host Kennewick American All-Stars will learn at 10 a.m. today if they have the most, as they go against Willamette Valley in the Cal Ripken 12U 70-foot majors regional championship game at the Kennewick American Youth Baseball Complex.
But the KA squad didn't just saunter into today's arena, as their semifinal game Saturday against Meridian, Idaho, provided a challenge with the locals edging their Gem State opponents 7-6.
Meridian defeated Tualatin 12-3 in the second quarterfinal to advance to the semis.
KA's Brycen Kelly and Dillon Plew shared the mound at three innings apiece and combined for 10 strikeouts over the six-inning contest. Caleb Cope had two RBIs on 2-for-4 hitting and Hunter Spiva had an RBI on 2-for-3 hitting.
Kennewick National fell in the semifinals on the other side of the bracket, 8-2 against Willamette Valley.
National beat Helena, Mont., 2-0 in the quarterfinals earlier Saturday.
Jayvee Selda threw a one-hit shutout and struck out 13 in the quarterfinal. He also homered in the semifinal, while pitcher Mel Crowley struck out nine in four innings in the loss.
"We started off slow, not scoring a run in the first two games," Kennewick National coach Wayne Dearing said. "But we really turned it on in the end and the pitching was stellar. They finished well."

The Moses Lake 13-year-olds lost 7-5 to Central Kitsap at the Northern Washington Babe Ruth Tournament in North Kitsap.
Gerald Hein only two hits and struck out six over 5 2/3 innings but East Grays Harbor rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Kennewick 13-year-olds 3-2 in a loser-out contest on Friday at the Babe Ruth Southern Washington state tournament in Centralia.
