KELSO -- Bryce Carver and pinch runner Trey Carter scored runs for the Kennewick Babe Ruth 15-year-olds, but it wasn't enough to edge Hazel Dell Metro as Kennewick lost 3-2 to HDM at the Southern Washington State Tournament in Kelso.
"It was very close," Kennewick coach Cory Overholt said. "We gave them a run for their money."
Kennewick continus pool play at 10 a.m. today against Hoquiam.
* The Richland Babe Ruth 15-year-olds lost 12-5 in their tournament contest against Kelso, whose eight-run fourth inning made the difference in an otherwise tight game.

Alex Hall and Trey Hardy had RBIs and Tyler Cowen hit a two-run single for Richland, who play at 1 p.m. today in a game against Centralia.

TUMWATER -- Jyamen Cortez produced a double on two hits, and pitchers Dwight Norwood and JR Zavaleta combined for five strikeouts, but the Kennewick 14-year-old all-stars lost 3-0 to Kelso at the Southern Washington State Tournament at Tumwater High School.

CENTRALIA -- Pasco had just two hits in its opening pool-play game at the Southern Washington State Tournament in Centralia, falling to North Thurston 10-0.
Pasco plays the host team, Centralia, today.

Little League 11s
CHENEY -- Chehalis eliminated Richland National 6-4 at the state Little League tournament for 11-year-olds in Cheney.
Richland National dropped to the loser's bracket Tuesday after opening the tournament with a 16-12 loss to Bonney Lake/Sumner. Caleb Richter hit a two-run homer for RN and teammate Christian Berry had two doubles on 3-for-4 hitting.
And the Walla Walla Pacific all-star team opened the tournament with a 6-4 loss to Mercer Island, but continued play at 6 p.m. Wednesday with a loser-out contest against West Seattle.
