KENNEWICK -- The Tri-City Junior Americans bantams fell just short of their goal of reaching nationals, losing 7-1 to the Seattle Jrs. Northwest Admirals minor squad in the Pacific Northwest Amateur Hockey Association Tier II state championships at Toyota Arena.
"We're disappointed. This is our only tournament championship game we lost all year," said coach Frank Dunn.
Tri-Cities forward Casey Phelps netted the Ams' only goal in the third period.
The Jr. Ams bantams finished the season with an impressive 48-12-4 record. The Admirals will head to Buffalo, N.Y., for the Tier II youth nationals from March 30-April 3.
The Spokane Jr. Chiefs won the Pee Wee state title, beating Seattle Jrs. 6-1 to earn a trip to nationals in San Jose.
In the Midget championship, Kent Valley beat Spokane 2-1 and will head to Gates Mills, Ohio for nationals.
