Two big races are on tap for the fourth of five weekends at Sun Downs.
Today's nine-race card features the $17,400 Dick Monahan American Quarter Horse Association Maiden Challenge finals.
The $17,500 AQHA Pfizer Starter Allowance Challenge finals headlines Sunday's 10-race event.
Vodka Soda No Fruit, ridden by Ben Chavis, is the 2-to-1 favorite in today's Dick Monahan final, having posted the best time (17.69 seconds over 350 yards) in the trials two weeks ago.
Never miss a local story.
Hez Worthy (4-to-1) and Buford Tucker (6-to-1) ran in the same trial as Vodka and have the second and third fastest times. Gator Hater, ridden by Ruben Camacho, won the other trial in 17.89, the same time as Buford Tucker, and is listed at 5-to-2.
First post is at 1:30 p.m.
Frankly, race fans, Trey is feeling a little blue with his imaginary bankroll having shrunk from $500 to $328. Worse yet, he's had just one winning day out of six at the track.
That means two things: One, Trey won't be quitting his day job anytime soon. Two, time to pick some longshots to get back to even.
It's in that spirit that Trey likes Double N Kwik in today's first race. We'll bet $5 across the board, and also the first half of the Daily Double.
Bet the second half of the Daily Double on Bold Forecast, plus couple him with Deep River for an exacta box.
In the third, a trifecta box of Kip N Cash, Lookin for Cash and Jets Casino Cash (sensing a theme here) looks good.
For the fourth, Trey wants a $6 quinella on Giggle for Gold and Dutch Apple. Snowbound Vicky is the horse to beat in the fifth, so we're going $5 across the board on her.
Let's box a trifecta of Eyes Okey, Iza All Dat N More and Hannibal Lector in the sixth.
For the seventh, Sting Em Fast gets the call for $5 across the board. In the eighth, we'll box an exacta of Black Canyon Bart and Liquid Intensity, plus take Bart as the first half of our late Daily Double, with Hez Worthy ... well ... worthy of carrying the second half of that ticket.
For the ninth, we'll box Hez Worthy with Gator Hator and Spensers Hawk in a trifecta. Sure, Spensers Hawk is listed 20-to-1, but one of Trey's favorite TV shows back in the day was Spensor for Hire, and his favorite character was Avery Brooks as Hawk.
Hey, as good a reason as any to cap our $81 day, which we'll call "Get Even Day." Tune in Sunday for results, plus our picks for "Get Even Day II: This Time We Mean It."
