The Tri-City Dust Devils overcame five errors and 13 strikeouts with a barrage of early runs to record a 9-5 Northwest League road victory over Salem-Keizer on Friday at Volcanoes Stadium.
The win allowed the Dust Devils (14-14) to increase their North Division lead to 1 1/2 games over Everett (13-16) and Vancouver (13-16), which lost 10-3 to visiting Boise.
With 10 games remaining in the regular season, Tri-City’s magic number is 9 (combined Dust Devils wins and Vancouver losses) to win the North Division.
Denzel Richardson had his best game of the season for Tri-City, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Sam Bumpers went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Sean Dwyer added two hits and three runs, raising his batting average to .303.
Dust Devils starting pitcher Helmis Rodriguez (2-6) picked up the win, pitching six strong innings while allowing just three hits and one earned run. Closer Josh Michalec earned his seventh save.
