The Tri-City Dust Devils slipped into a four-run hole early and never recovered, losing at Salem-Keizer 12-5 on Thursday for their second loss in as many games against the Volcanoes.
Dust Devils starter Joel Payamps lasted just four innings, giving up eight hits and five runs. S-K broke out the big bats, smacking three homers and a triple. Two of the long balls — a three-run shot for Aramis Garcia and a two-run blast by Travious Relaford — powered a seven-run fifth inning that salted the game away.
Tri-City (13-14) is tied for the second-half lead with Vancouver, which was tied with Boise headed into the 10th inning late Thursday.
Sean Dwyer had a big night for the Dust Devils, going 3-for-5 and drilling a two-run homer in the seventh. Wilson Soriano went 4-for-4 at the top of the order.
