The Tri-City Dust Devils missed a chance to gain ground in the Northwest League North Division standings, losing 5-2 to the host Salem-Keizer Volcanoes on Wednesday.
However, Vancouver (13-14) lost in Boise, so the Dust Devils remain a half-game ahead for the division lead.
Tri-City (13-13) held an early 1-0 lead behind starter Ryan Castellani (0-2), but a three-run third-inning rally by S-K put the Volcanoes up for good.
Shane Hoelscher blasted his second home run of the year for the Dust Devils in the sixth inning to cut S-K’s lead to 4-2, but Dylan Davis homered in the bottom of the eighth off reliever Scott Firth for an insurance run.
Hoelscher went 2-for-3 to raise his average to .320.
Jason Forjet (7-1) picked up the win for the Volcanoes.
