The Tri-City Dust Devils had some early chances.
But late in the game, it was all about the Spokane Indians, who scored 14 runs over their final three times at bat in a 16-4 Northwest League victory at Avista Stadium.
Twice the Indians took a one-run lead, and twice the Dust Devils tied it back up through the first 5 1⁄2 innings. Kyle Von Tungeln scored on an infield grounder by Francisco Sosa to even the score at 2 in the top of the sixth.
But Spokane exploded for four runs — anchored by Joey Gallo’s two-run single — in the bottom half of the sixth to take a 6-2 lead.
Gallo finished the game 3-for-5 with two home runs, two runs scored and seven RBIs.
Patrick Cantwell and former Gonzaga standout Royce Bolinger each added three RBIs for the Indians.
Von Tungeln hit his first home run of the season — a two-run shot in the eighth inning — for one of the Dust Devils’ five hits.
Connor Sadzeck (1-3) got the win for Spokane, allowing just two unearned runs over six innings.
Shane Broyles (4-3) took the loss, giving up five runs on six hits in 5 1⁄3 innings.
