The Tri-City Dust Devils got off to a rocky start Saturday night as they opened their five-game trip to Eugene with a 17-6 loss to the Emeralds.
Eugene jumped on Tri-City starter Roberto Padilla with a seven-run first inning, with the big blow coming on Felix Cabrera’s bases-loaded double to right field. Two runs scored, but Dust Devils outfielder Derek Jones stemmed the bleeding when he threw out Rodney Daal at home.
Padilla was lifted to start the second, and Tri-City rallied for three runs in the third, all with two out. Francisco Sosa had an RBI single and Matt Argyropoulos a two-run hit in the frame.
But Eugene struck again in the fourth with two-run doubles from Jeremy Baltz and Daal powering a five-run frame. The Dust Devils never got closer than six runs the rest of the way.
