The Tri-Cty Dust Devils didn’t get many chances against the Hillsboro Hops Friday, July 22, at Gesa Stadium against the Hillsboro Hops, but Kyle Overstreet and Taylor Kohlwey took advantage of their opportunities to drive in the game’s only runs and pace the Dust Devils to a 2-0 victory. Overstreet called an eight-hit shutout behind the plate with highly-touted prospect Eric Lauer making his Dust Devils debut on the mound and Jordan Guerrero pitching five innings of relief behind him. The Everett AquaSox, Spokane Indians and Vancouver Canadians all lost on Friday, which allowed the Dust Devils to reclaim the Northwest League North division lead.
Former University of Washington Husky and current Tri-City Dust Devil Chris Baker battled to get on the field in high school and college, and eventually emerged as a legitimate professional prospect, getting picked in the 17th round by the San Diego Padres in the 2016 MLB Draft. Now as a Dust Devil, Baker is still putting in the extra hours it takes to succeed on the diamond.
