Go Girl Gone sets track record in Sun Downs spring finale

By the Herald staff

Go Girl Gone, owned by 3G Racing of Othello and trained by Othello mayor Shannon McKay, raced to victory in the $30,000 AQHA/Merial Northwest Region Distaff Challenge at 400 yards Sunday in Kennewick as the spring meet of horse racing at Sun Downs ended.

The winning horse was ridden by jockey Joe Ruiz.

To top it off, a track record for 400 yards was set at 19.74 seconds.

It was McKay's horse, Rockin Rylee, which won the meet's biggest race, the $44,000 Evergreen Futurity, on April 20.

And it was Ruiz who rode that winner, as well.

Go Girl Gone broke cleanly from the gate and led from the start, holding off Viva La Bam and rider Roger Butterfly by a neck at the finish.

Luis Torres ran away with the top jockey award, while Jerry Holifield was the top thoroughbred trainer with 13 victories.

Bill Hoburg was the top quarterhorse trainer with nine victories.
