Chiawana’s Austen Silvers and Clayton Smith each placed third Saturday at Mat Classic XXV in the Tacoma Dome.
Smith won by a 4-3 decision against Kentridge’s Arthur Sargent at 145 pounds, while Silvers won by a 6-2 decision over Olympia’s Josh Newbill.
Pasco’s Brandon Gonzalez took fourth at 126 pounds, winning by a 9-7 decisiion, while Richland’s Pryce Seely was eighth at 138 pounds and Cameron Simpson was seventh at 170 pounds. Walla Walla’s Logan Reardon finished sixth at 220 pounds.
In Class 3A, Sunnyside’s Jesse Torres was third at 106 pounds, pinning Enumclaw’s Kyle Opland in 43 seconds.
Finishing fourth were Kamiakin’s Cesar Castillo at 113 pounds, Sunnyside’s Santos Guerrero at 120 and Hanford’s Will Bishop at 182.
Kamiakin’s Harley Kolp took fifth at 132 pounds, winning by a 5-1 decision. Southridge’s Bryce Overholt also was fifth, pinning Sunnyside’s Daniel Avalos in 3:54 at 182 pounds.
Sunnyside’s Max Ramos finished sixth at 170 pounds, and Kennewick’s Michael Hosfield was eighth at 126 pounds.
In Class 2A, Othello’s Isaiah Barrera bounced back from a semifinal loss to older brother Anthony, to take third at 106 pounds. Isaiah won by an 11-4 decision against Deer Park’s Aaron Klauder.
Teammate Manny Martinez finished fourth at 120 pounds and Eric Garza was eighth at 145. Grandview’s Joesiah Saunders took seventh at 132.
In Class 1A, Connell’s Greg Heinen finished fourth at 195 pounds after being pinned by Blaine’s Caleb Johnson in 1:24. Teammates Jose Cervantes (113 pounds) and Oscar Ortiz (106) took seventh and eighth, respectively.
Columbia (Burbank)’s Tucker Simonton was fifth at 152 pounds, winning by a 7-5 decision. Kiona-Benton’s Kale Setzer was sixth at 138 and Wahluke’s Jack Yorgesen was eighth at 182.
In the girls tournament, Grandview’s Viannei Perez was third at 112 pounds, winning a 4-3 decision over Mabton’s Mary Gutierrez. Greyhounds teammate Maria Rivera took sixth at 137 pounds.
Pasco’s Tania Martinez was seventh at 155 pounds, while Richland’s Tamika Pierce was eighth at 106.
