A new batch of state rankings came out on Washington Wrestling Report this week. Here's a look.
In team rankings, Moses Lake ranks 12th overall (just ahead of Ellensburg) and eighth in Class 4A. Mead ranks No.1 overall but slips behind Tahoma in the 4A rankings.
Chiawana is 12th in the 4A. Sunnyside ranks seventh in Class 3A, and the only other CBBN team in the top 20 is Eastmont at 17th.
Othello is eighth in the Class 2A, with CWAC rival Ellensburg in third. Royal is sixth in Class 1A, with Kiona-Benton 10th, Connell 13th, Columbia-Burbank 14th and Mabton 20th. Their West rivals — Zillah and Granger — are second and third. Defending state champ Warden leads the Class B.
Never miss a local story.
If the team rankings seem odd, particularly based on previous dual results, they are based on predictions on how the teams would fare at a tournament. In other words, Othello may have edged Ellensburg in a dual last week, but the Bulldogs have more wrestlers that would go deeper in a tournament than the Huskies ... according to WWR, anyways.
Individually among all class sizes, Moses Lake's Nico Moreno ranks first at 152 pounds, the only Mid-Col wrestler to hold the top spot in his weight.Other overall ranked wrestlers: Chiawana's Chris Montelongo (106) ranks 11th; Richland's Josh Andrew (120) 10th; Moses Lake's Beau Gleed seventh, Sunnyside's Nathan Gonzalez eighth and Warden's JP Martinez 10th at 126; Ki-Be's Matt McCallum (132) ninth; Pasco's Deondre Sparks (138) 10th; Ki-Be's Cruz Del Angel seventh, Kamiakin's Sisto Santana Pina eighth, Moses Lake's Jonathan Perales 10th and Southridge's Kevin Del-Angel 11th at 170; Del-Angel again 12th at 182; Warden's Adam Hansen (195) 10th; and Othello's Joey Gomez (220) third.
