KENNEWICK -- Sunnyside won 11 of 14 matches to dominate a CBBN 3A dual-meet Thursday against Kamiakin, earning three pins and a major decision for a 58-9 win in Kennewick.
The Braves, who were battling a wave of strep throat and bronchitis, won just three matches, but all were significant. Harley Kolp (132 pounds) and Colton DeLeon (145) each pulled out overtime victories to give their team a boost.
"The overtime wins were great. It shows how hard we've been working that we can pull those out in the end," said Kamiakin coach Jordan Anderson. "Half our team is sick. I didn't think we'd be able to wrestle this many matches."
Returning state placer Sisto Santana-Pina picked up his first win at 170 pounds since coming back from an ankle injury. He decisioned Sam Romero 7-2 for the Braves' third win of the night.
Never miss a local story.
"He looked rusty, but we'll get him there," Anderson said.
