Southridge 3, Chiawana 2: The Southridge volleyball team used an eight-point run in the fifth set to grab a 25-12, 25-22, 16-25, 24-26, 15-13 victory at Chiawana in both teams’ Mid-Columbia Conference openers Tuesday.
Chiawana led 9-4 in the final set before giving up the big run to Southridge.“We panicked a bit and made a handful of unforced errors,” Chiawana coach Jim Steach said. “We let a big opportunity to pull one off slip away there with one bad run.”
The Suns were playing for the first time since The Seattle Times ranked them the No. 1 Class 3A team in the state.
“They have been paying too much attention to that No.1 ranking thing,” Southridge coach John Lengphounpraseut said. “They put a lot of pressure on themselves.”

Kimmy Brinkworth’s 16 kills and eight blocks led the Suns, while Shantelle Hill’s 16 kills and 13 digs led the Riverhawks.

Richland 3, Hanford 0: Hailey Turner led the Bombers with 15 kills, and Peyton Wahl scooped up 27 digs to lift the Bombers to an MCC sweep over the Falcons.
Taylor Moody and Sarah McCormick combined for 30 assists for Richland.

Kamiakin 3, Pasco 0: The Braves overwhelmed the Bulldogs in three games thanks to some solid serving by Amanda Miller, Kaile Akker, Courtney Sarver and Rachel Leshikar in the season opener for both squads.
Sarver was 11-for-11 and Leshikar was 10-for-10 serving, as Kamiakin used its superior height advantage to cruise to the sweep.
Catelyn Linke’s six kills led the Bulldogs.

WALLA WALLA 3, KENNEWICK 2: Morgan Wilder had nine kills and Kaylee Hagadorn added 13 assists and 14 digs, but it wasn’t enough as Kennewick lost its CBBN opener to Walla Walla at the Lions Den.
“We need to be a little more consitant to get the win,” Lions coach Julie Maciboba said.
