CONNELL -- After the first round of SCAC East play, everyone's looking up at the Connell Eagles, perched atop the standings.
Connell improved to 6-0 in league with a 25-11, 25-8, 25-22 road victory over Kiona-Benton on Tuesday night.
"It was a well-balanced match, and we came out offensively and defensively strong in the first two sets," Connell coach Kate Johnson said.
The Eagles were on target with their serves throughout the match. Paxton Carlisle went 18-of-18, Grayson Corrales was 12-of-12 and Sharlisa Davidson finished 8-of-8.

"It was probably our best-serving game we've had all season as far as not missing serves," said Johnson, who is feeling encouraged by the Eagles' unbeaten league record.
"We have set high goals for the season, and we are accomplishing them match by match," Johnson said.
Kendall Watts and Ali Kissiak each had three kills for the Bears, who fell to 4-2 in conference play.
"We didn't even show up," Ki-Be coach Susan Kennedy said. "We will be ready for Thursday's game with River View."

Nataly Aguilar had some big kills to lead the Coyotes to a four-set SCAC East home victory.
Aguilar finished with eight kills, 16-of-19 serving, three aces and 19 digs as the Coyotes bounced back from a tough first-set loss.

Shanita Hill and Shantelle Hill combined for 12 kills and 16 digs as Chiawana recorded a CBBN 4A road sweep over Eisenhower in its first road trip in 2 1/2 weeks.
"We didn't play particularly well, but it's nice to play well enough to get a win," Riverhawks coach Jim Steach said.
Chiawana setter Jaymee Steach totalled 15 assists.

Taylor Sonnenberg racked up 24 kills and Kenzie Fancher had 24 assists to lead the Chiefs in a CBBN 4A home loss to the Panthers.
"Wenatchee's a quality club, and we were right there," Moses Lake coach Amy Utter said. "We had opportunities. We just have to keep battling."

Richland jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first game behind Lauren Joseph and that set the tone for the match as Richland cruised to a CBBN 4A road victory Davis.
Liz Quick had six kills and three blocks, and Macey Weitz handed out 17 assists and had seven aces.
The Bombers host Walla Walla on Thursday and will play in the Crossover Tournament in Spokane on Saturday.

The Lions rallied past the Braves for a CBBN 3A road victory.
Tori Szendre's nine kills, four blocks and two aces led Kennewick to a four-set victory, which moves the Lions into third place alone.
"We just decided to play our game," Kennewick coach Julie Maciboba said. "We decided to start playing better as a team and turn it around and finished through the match."
The Braves took the first set 25-22 before the Lions won the next three.
"The girls seemed ready to go. We served fairly well, but we had trouble putting the ball away," said Kamiakin coach Mary Opitz. "Kennewick plays very good defense. They dug up a lot of balls."

Sunnyside rallied to take two sets off Hanford, but the Falcons rebounded to finish off the Grizzlies in five games in CBBN 3A play in Richland.
"I have to give a lot of credit to Sunnyside," Hanford coach McKenzie Garberg said. "They caught us off guard, played scrappy, and the last two games they outplayed us. In the fifth game, my girls woke up and said 'enough is enough.' "
Nikki Eldred led the Falcons with 18 kills, while Suzi Davison handed out 30 assists.

Southridge setter Kylie Fraga, playing with the flu, recorded six kills and 29 assists as the Suns swept host Pasco in the CBBN 3A matchup.
"Kylie has been sick for the last three days, but she did a great job tonight. You wouldn't have thought she was sick," Southridge coach John Lengphonprouset said. "Shelby (Warner) had 11 kills out of 18 attempts. All the years I've coached, she's probably the most consistent hitter I've had."
Marisol Diaz finished with 15 digs to lead the Bulldogs.
