Soccer, volleyball playoffs begin
CWAC: Ellensburg, Prosser, Othello make playoffs, Selah out
Hanford, Southridge are co-MCC soccer champs with 12-2 records. Falcons play Chiawana Thursday for regional 4A championship. Suns play Kamiakin today for regional 3A championship. In volleyball, Richland will play Mead for regional championship Saturday. Pasco plays Gonzaga Prep, Chiawana plays Ferris, Kamiakin plays Southridge.
Bombers host Central Valley on Friday. Chiawana travels to Spokane to play Gonzaga Prep. Kamiakin hosts Evergreen. Big Nine champ Moses Lake has a bye this week. Sunnyside will await the winner of the Chiawana-Gonzaga Prep game.
Richland receiver Josh Mendoza hauls in eight catches for 108 yards against Chiawana. Southridge QB Mason Martin throws for 179 yards and four touchdowns against Kennewick. Hanford QB Garrett Horner throws for 363 yards and six touchdowns against Pasco.
Hanford finishes regular season with 10-game win streak. Kennewick beats Rogers 11-0, will play North Central on Wednesday in Spokane. Walla Walla wins 2-1 shootout at Pasco, will play Mead on Wednesday in Spokane.
Bombers win 21-14, Riverhawks commit six turnovers for first loss. Kamiakin beats Walla Walla 48-21 to set up showdown with Southridge, which is playoff-bound after beating Kennewick 31-21. Moses Lake wins the Big Nine with two weeks left in season, and Sunnyside and Eisenhower meet this week for the second playoff spot.
Walla Walla QB Mitch Lesmeister breaks school's all-time yardage record, previously held by Drew Bledsoe. Chiawana RB Andrew Vargas rushes for 215 yards and six touchdowns. Richland WR Adam Weissenfels catches four passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns, and picks off a pass for another touchdown.
