The hits keep on coming for the Kennewick soccer team.
With their first league title since 1988 already in their pocket, the Lions laid claim to the Class 3A District 5/8 title Thursday night with a 3-0 win over Shadle Park at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane.
Sam Borja and Adrian Rojo scored almost on top of each other in the second half after a scoreless opener.
“It’s been our M.O. all season,” said Kennewick coach Brian Gochoel, whose team ran its scoreless streak to 585 minutes. “We certainly haven’t been a prolific goal-scoring side.
“But we just flowed like Clockwork Orange in the second half. It was fun to watch.”
Borja scored in the 46th minute, tackling a ball that didn’t quite clear from the Shadle side. Rojo connected seven minutes later off a feed from Ramiro Chavez, who then closed the scoring in the 74th minute.
The win secured the second straight state berth for the Lions (15-3), who will host a first-round game Tuesday against a west-side team to be determined Saturday.
Meanwhile, league rival Hanford will take on this same Shadle Park team back at Joe Albi at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Falcons beat University 2-1 in overtime to keep their postseason alive.
