Kennewick’s Ramiro Chavez scored with two minutes left to give the Lions a 1-0 win over Hanford and what is believed to be the first league title in program history.
“I’m just thrilled and proud,” Kennewick coach Brian Gochoel said. “These boys won not only for themselves and the school, but for the Kennewick community. A lot of former players have come back and really lent their support, and the enthusiasm with our success is something special for this group.”
Chavez took a pass from Alvaro Licea and split the Hanford defense, eventually slotting the ball home for the winner.
The goalie tandem of Jose Rodriguez and Henry Hernandez did their part, combining for three saves.
The Kennewick defense has only allowed six goals in 15 games this season, which is what the league title was built on.
The Lions’ back line is made up of Noe Diaz, Marcos Borja, Esau Vasquez and Anthony Arroyo.
“It is really just the boys working together as a team,” Gochoel said.
