It came just 25 minutes into the match, but Will Bishop’s goal proved the game winner as the Hanford Falcons topped the visiting Chiawana Riverhawks 1-0 in a tightly contested Mid-Columbia Conference soccer match.
Michael Parkman got the assist, making a throwin that cleared Chiawana’s backline. Bishop made a good run on it and slotted it home.
It was all the Falcons defense would need to make stand up.
“Our entire backline did well,” said Hanford coach Mike Pardini, citing Kelly Smith, Kyle McMurrich, Austin Tanner and Nick Carlson. “Chiawana is a good team, and they have got some good individual players, and those guys did a fantastic job of slowing ’em down and winning the ball from them.”
Never miss a local story.
The win moves Hanford (9-3) a half game in front of Kennewick (8-3) atop the Mid-Col, while Chiawana falls to 6-7 and 21⁄2 games behind Pasco for fourth place.
