RICHLAND -- Edgar Nava had three saves and Moses Lake's defense kept most of the contest at midfield to protect its sole goal, a solo shot in the 10th minute by A.J. Montes, and the Chiefs shut out Richland 1-0 on Saturday in a CBBN 4A matchup at Bomber Field.
Nash Yamauchi had four saves for the Bombers.
"We took one early and never mounted anything significant and never recovered," Richland coach Octavio Dovalle said.
Dovalle singled out several Moses Lake players as key to the Chiefs win.
"They have some good players, No. 17 that scored, he's pretty talented. They have this other guy, Derrick Gonzales, he was All-Conference last year, a pretty solid player and Tyler Courtright on defense did a nice job, was able to work hard and shut down just about everything that came through."
As for Richland, several Bombers stepped up to keep the game going.
"Our defense played well overall," Dovalle said. " We have a fellow named Kevin Garza, kept us in the game in the back. And our workhorse, Jonathan Larsen, worked hard in the game."
But even with dedicated players giving it their all on the field, the weather didn't feel like cooperating.
"It was windy for them and it was windy for us," Dovalle said. "It was a mixed bag, part-windy, part-wet, spring weather. It affected both teams, but what do you expect?"

"My seniors have never beaten Southridge," second-year Ken-newick coach Brian Gochoel said. "It's the first time they've been able to get a victory against the Suns, which is certainly a good thing for them."
Gochoel credited his back line for shutting down Southridge's attack.
"My two center backs, Angel Garcia and Miguel Lopez, really were able to handle Southridge's pressure and distribute well after that," Gochoel said.
Kennewick goaltenders Henry Fernandez and Jose Rodriguez combined for five saves.
"I was certainly happy with the way we were able to finish and keep Southridge off the board because their history shows them as being an explosive team," Gochoel said. "Recording a 5-0 result is something we're happy with, and hopefully we can carry that to the Pasco game on Tuesday."
James Fort finished with eight saves for Southridge.
