Marist 68, Hermiston 22: Kamerun Smith threw for 269 yards and five touchdowns to lead Marist past Hermiston in the Oregon Class 5A playoffs Friday at Willamette High School in Eugene.
The Spartans (9-1), who got rushing touchdowns of 29 and 42 yards by Andrew Parks, jumped out to a 26-0 lead at the end of the first period and never looked back.
Austin Owen was on the receiving end of three TD passes for Marist, while Josh Harper had TD passes of 27 and 6 yards, and returned an interception 29 yards for a TD.
The highlight for Hermiston (6-4) came in the third quarter when David Barnett blocked a punt and a Thomas Hamblin recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown.
Trent Anteau had 108 yards rushing for the Bulldogs, while Chase Kuntz threw for 203 yards.
