Brenden Kelly, wr, Southridge
Caught 9 passes for 125 yards, including the game-winning touchdown on a 34-yard throw from Grant Lathim as time expired in the Suns’ 9-7 win over Richland. His clutch catch came on a jump ball in tight traffic, his third grab on Southridge’s final 10-play, 82-yard drive. Another star goes to the Suns defense, which held the Bombers to about 90 yards of offense and didn’t allow any points — Richland’s TD came on a pick-six.
Quarterback David Garza and receiver Trevor Walker hooked up on three touchdowns — 6, 17 and 10 yards — all in the third quarter of the Huskies’ 39-13 rout of nonleague rival Connell. Walker finished with 6 grabs for 100 yards, and Garza was 15-for-22 (68 percent) for 241 yards and four TDs plus another score on the ground.
Jalen DeVine, rb, Hanford
Ran for 206 yards on 26 carries, including a game-clinching 55-yard TD run with 7:43 left in the Falcons’ 23-7 win over Chiawana. It was the capper on a night when Hanford piled up 293 yards on the ground against what figures to be a good Riverhawks defense.
The Bears piled up the yards in a 40-7 win over Granger, with 433 on the ground and 537 total. Junior QB Anfernee Cortez (227 yards, 1 TD) and sophomore RB Jacob Heinen (193, 3) were the main beneficiaries.
Ruvim Tyutyunnik, qb, River View
The sophomore made his first varsity start behind center and came up big, completing 14 of 15 throws — an astonishing 93 percent — for 290 yards and three TDs in a 53-7 win over Highland. Tyutyunnik also ran in a pair of scores.
Alex Myrick, qb, Royal
Did a little bit of everything and an awful lot of scoring for the Knights in a 52-14 win over Cascade of Leavenworth. The three-year starter was 9-of-16 passing for 161 yards and two TDs. He also ran for 67 yards on 10 carries, scored on a 75-yard punt return and took the second-half kickoff 95 yards for yet another score.
