KENNEWICK -- It's hard to play much better offensively than Kamiakin did Thursday.
The Braves scored early and often in a 52-20 romp against Sunnyside in CBBN 3A action at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick.
Kamiakin (7-0 overall, 5-0 league) scored six touchdowns on its first 12 plays.
"We probably can't play any better," Kamiakin senior Tim White said. "We looked really good tonight. We went uptempo and we got them tired and started wearing them down."
White returned two punts for 39 and 37 yards, setting up a 5-yard touchdown run by Dom Davis and a 29-yard touchdown pass from Joey Jansen to Tyler Holle for a quick 14-0 lead. Those two touchdowns came on three plays and ran just 14 seconds off the clock.
After a nice punt from Sunnyside's Adrian Ramirez was downed at the 1, Kamiakin immediately went to work, taking a whopping four plays and 49 seconds to go 99 yards, capped off by a 12-yard touchdown pass from Jansen to A.J. Griffiths.
"You can always play better," Kamiakin coach Scott Biglin said. "I'm sure we'll find something on the tape.
"Tonight was a great thing for us. We played great last week and this week and we want to keep rolling."
The Braves did just that Thursday.
Sunnyside (2-5, 1-4) responded with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Daley to Fernando Madrigal to make the score respectable, at least for a bit.
Leading 21-6, Jansen hit Holle on back-to-back plays, the last one a 56-yard jump ball down the sideline, which Holle cut back to the middle and scored easily -- and the rout was on.
"When our line blocks, it gives our quarterback a lot of time to throw," White said. "Our running game has really stepped up this season and a lot of that goes to our offensive line."
While White wasn't in the action in the end zone early, he didn't have to wait long.
After forcing another Ramirez punt -- he punted eight times for a 38.3 average -- White caught it on the 30-yard line and went nearly untouched 70 yards down the right sideline for another touchdown.
"Every week we seem to have nice returns, but then get a block in the back penalty that cost us," Biglin said. "We've tried to emphasize in practice that special teams are one-third of the game and we need to use it to our advantage."
Besides White's 146 punt return yards, Dom Davis also returned the opening kick of the second half 52 yards.
On Kamiakin's fifth possession of the first half, the Braves actually had to work a little bit, as Davis went 11 yards on the first play, Jansen hit Holle for 14 yards on the second, Davis was stopped for a loss on the third and then Jansen found White in the left flat and White streaked 53 yards for the final touchdown the starters would score.
Biglin removed his starting offense with 2 minutes, 45 seconds remaining in the first half with the Braves leading 42-6.
"Playing a Wing-T team you know they'll put together some drives," Biglin said of the Grizzlies. "We wanted to score fast and try to get them out of that. We wanted to come out and dictate the tempo."
Sunnyside added two second-half touchdowns against the Kamiakin second and third string defenders, while Garrett Bowe connected on a 33-yard field goal and Cody Wilmoth scored on a 12-yard run for the final scoring.
While the game was rarely in question, the Braves still took something out of the game.
"Seven-and-0 looks better than 6-0," White said. "Another win is added and we are another win closer to state."
Wilmoth led the Braves with 124 yards rushing on 18 carries. Jansen was 8-for-8 for 236 yards, while White had three receptions for 116 yards and Holle had four catches for 108 yards.
