David Marshall delivered four strong innings on the mound and Brandon Larsen’s two-run double powered a five-run outburst in the third inning as the Kamiakin baseball team opened the season with an 8-2 nonleague win over Hermiston on Monday at LaPierre Field.Marshall, a three-year starter on the bump, struck out seven and allowed two hits in his short day. Seth Price added a pair of hits for the Braves.

Gonzaga Prep 4-11, Richland 2-12: Mason Nelson hit a game-winning sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the seventh at Bomber Field, breaking an 11-all tie with the Bullpups to salvage a nonleague split.
Gonzaga Prep won Game 1, 4-2, as Bullpups pitchers Justin Blatner and Cael McKeirnan limited Richland to just two runs on eight hits.

In the nightcap, Hunter Chambers went 3-for-4 with two triples and two RBIs for Richland, and Mitch Piper added a home run and three RBIs. Cody Follett earned the win for the Bombers in relief.
“We played a more sound game in Game 1, but a win’s a win,” Richland skipper Grant Richardson said after Bomber pitchers gave up13 walks in Game 2. “There’s definitely a lot of things to improve on, but it’s good to get out on the field finally.”

LC 8, Chiawana 7: Spencer Binnion’s three hits couldn’t propel the Riverhawks in a road loss to Lewis & Clark in Spokane. Andrew Vargas and Brian Black also added two hits for Chiawana.
“From a coach’s standpoint, it was a good first day out,” Riverhawks coach Dave Price said after the errorless game that saw both teams combining for 22 hits. “We pitched well and we played good defense.”

Sunnyside 5, Grandview 1: Alexander Marin scored on a pair of Christian Chavez assists, and Noe Meza added two more goals to lead the host Grizzlies to the nonleague win.
Chavez scored one of his own on a penalty kick. Victor Valencia put Grandview on the board with a tying goal in the 54th minute before Sunnyside notched four in 13 minutes.

Moses Lake Invitational: Pasco’s Jalayne Martinez was one shot off medalist Sierra Bezdicek of Mt. Spokane, who finished with a low round of 80 at Moses Lake Golf Club.
Neydeen Martinez of Pasco tied for third with Catherine Warner of Southridge with an 86.
Mt. Spokane placed four golfers in the top 10 to win the team race with 156 strokes. Southridge finished second at 168, followed by Pasco at 176.
