KENNEWICK -- Southridge got what it wanted in the first game, Kennewick in the second.
Sometimes, everyone goes home happy.
Bryce Jackson threw a five-hit gem Tuesday to lead the Suns to an 8-2 win in the opener of their CBBN 3A doubleheader at Roy Johnson Field, locking up the league title and top seed to the postseason.
Lions starter Stetson Plew answered in the nightcap for the Lions, tossing a four-hitter in a 9-1 win that secured second place and its playoff benefits.
Never miss a local story.
"Overall it was a good day," said Southridge senior first baseman and pitcher Ty Jackson. "We were looking to win the league title, and we got that when we won the first game."
In the other dugout, Kennewick senior third baseman Drew Loftus said his team got what it needed as well.
"We're satisfied with second place," he said. "But one is never enough against these guys."
Both teams bypass the sub-regional qualifier games Saturday, going straight to next Tuesday's games. Kennewick will be at the Greater Spokane League champ and will face a loser-out game, while Southridge will play host to its side of the bracket and has a bye into the double-elimination games.
Bryce Jackson was tough on the Lions in the opener after escaping a first-inning jam with only one run of damage against him.
He set down 12 of the next 13 batters he faced until Loftus' solo homer to start the sixth. In one stretch, Jackson struck out five of six and finished with seven strikeouts.
"Bryce threw well. You have to give him some credit," Kennewick coach AJ Marquardt said.
Meanwhile, the Suns got big production from the bottom of the lineup, with No. 8 hitter Brock Marston going 4-for-4 and No. 9 hitter Dallas Jones 2-for-3.
Kennewick bounced back in the second game behind Trek Stemp's 2-for-3 performance with a double and three RBIs.
Plew continued his second-half surge for the Lions after starting the season as a long reliever. He struck out nine and walked three, and wriggled out of two-one, one-out jams in the fifth and sixth.
