Kennewick converted its first four shots in the shootout Thursday as the Lions beat the Hanford Falcons 2-1 in a 3A Mid-Columbia Conference boys soccer district loser-out game at Lampson Stadium.
Kennewick advances to play Kamiakin at noon Saturday in the district title game at Lampson Stadium.
“This game tonight was a war,” Kennewick coach Ricky Hamilton said. “Both teams had so much heart, it could have gone either way. It was a well-played game.
“I was scared of Will Eldred. We marked him with two guys all game. He is dangerous.”

Emilio Ontiveros scored at 14:52 of the first half for the Lions, while the Falcons evened the score with 4 minutes remaining in regulation with a goal by sophomore Nick Ozanich.
Armando Ponce, Alexis Reyna, Jairo Villasenor and Jason Cortez scored in the shootout for the Lions.
“As soon as Jason sunk the fourth one, it was over,” Hamilton said.

RICHLAND 1, CHIAWANA 0: Jason Pietrok scored on an assist from Ryan Wolski in the 61st minute to lead the Bombers past the host Riverhawks in an MCC 4A district loser-out game.
Richland goalie Jake VoordePoorte recorded the shutout as the Bombers eliminated Chiawana.
Richland (7-10), which beat Walla Walla in a loser-out game Tuesday night, will face MCC regular-season champion Pasco (15-1) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Edgar Brown Stadium for 1-2 regional seeding.
“Pretty proud of my boys,” Richland coach Octavio DoValle said. “They played well and hard. They deserve it. A lot of focus.”
Jorge Llerenas finished with five saves for the Riverhawks (11-5).

Track and field
The Hanford boys and girls dominated the field Thursday at a Mid-Columbia Conference meet in Richland.
The Falcons’ Joseph Gauthier swept the 100 (10.97 seconds) and 200 (22.19), then ran a leg on the winning on the 4x100 relay team (43.89).
In the distance races, Hanford’s Porter McMichael won the 1,600 (4:30.50), while Caleb Olson won the 3,200 (10:07.30).
In the javelin, Hanford’s Vincent Walsh won with a personal-best throw of 165 feet, 3 inches.
In the girls division, points were up for grabs in the sprints as Pasco’s Angela Cardon opted to compete in just the long jump, which she won with a leap of 17-2 1/4.
Hanford’s Kara Shibley won the shot put (33-5) and discus (104-9), while Southridge’s Makenna Behrens won the javelin (110-3).
