In a battle of freshmen, Eden Snider of Pasco defeated Chelsea Li of Richland 6-3, 6-3 to win the girls singles title at the Class 4A District 5 tournament at Pasco High School.
Not to be outdone, Bulldogs doubles team of Zara Guzman and Katelyn Bedoya topped Maria Arceo and Jaime Quaresma of Walla Walla 5-7, 6-0, 6-0 to win their first title.
“I’ve been coaching here 18 years and we’ve never come close to a district championship,” Pasco coach Charlie Villanueva said. “It’s a neat thing coming from a school like Pasco. We don’t have a court club. We just come out and pick it up in March and lay it down in May.”
